Powerful quote on confronting suffering

"...the quickest way for anyone to reach the sun and the light of day is not to run west, chasing after the setting sun, but to head east, plunging into the darkness until one comes to the sunrise."

I recently read a book called 'A Grace Disguised' by Jerry Sittser, which is a book-long reflection on the purpose of suffering, and ultimately the hope found through suffering, in life. The author was involved in a car incident with a drunk driver, which ultimately killed his mother, his wife, and one of his daughters, and forever traumatizing himself and his other children, all of whom were in the car during the incident. It's an amazing read that I recommend to everyone, and to hear that perspective from a man who experienced such tragedy is powerful. What do you guys think of the quote? What do you think it means? Is this encouraging? Thought-provoking?
