If You Can't Say Something Nice...

Today, people are advised to speak out if they are unhappy with anything. Riots break out when hordes of people gather together voicing the same thing they are unhappy about.

There's an old quote that says:

"If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all."

What are your thoughts about implementing this strategy? Whether it be for individuals or groups of people.

I think the quote could be looked at a different way. Instead of saying that unhappy thoughts and feelings shouldn't be voiced at all, I think the quote can still be upheld if they are voiced, but in a manner that doesn't intentionally provoke the other party. This can be exhibited in stuff like peace rallies, or on a smaller scale, when you talk through your problems with someone instead of arguing all the time.
