Bullying

The cruelty kids can inflict upon one another doesn't start in middle school -- it can often start earlier, at around age 5. At this tender age, kids start jockeying for social power.
What are the ways that we can curb this in our schools and society?
Your contributions/suggestions will go a long way in helping parents and kids who are going through such.

Bullies are less likely to pick on kids who have friends, so encourage your child's friendships.

I believe a lot of bullying is a result how society says life should be. Society says that the loud gets are the ones who get notices, the only ones who deserve attention. So loud kids at a young age feel like they have a right to overpower the more quiet ones. And the timid kids are usually victims to bullying, until they learn to become loud. We as a society says that the more money you have, the better you are. So kids bully one another if they think they can afford less, they wear less expensive things, and show signs of poverty. Society says that boys should be tough and strong, so the more sensitive boys get picked on while the athletic ones hail as "popular". Society has a set standard of beauty placed on women, so girls who are not fitting to that mold are picked on as well. As soon as we as a society dismantle harmful stereotypes about who we should be, how we should act, and what we should achieve, then we will see less bullying as more people are allowed to be "different".
