    Being Selfish

I don't think it is selfish at all to take time for yourself. In fact, if friends or family members get upset because you decline to help them, I say they are the ones being selfish. If they care about you, then they will understand. It took me a while to realize that and even longer to actually...

    Vegetarian to Vegan

Thank you for sharing this video. It was eye-opening. I have drastically cut my meat intake over the past few months in an attempt to move towards a vegetarian diet. I've been consuming, or trying to consume, a lot of protein and fewer carbs because I thought that's what I needed. Maybe not. I...

Getting Back on the Weight Loss Wagon

Back in 2013, I had bariatric surgery to help me lose weight. I did great at first and lost almost 200 pounds. During the past couple of years, though, I've put a lot back on. That is disappointing by itself, but I feel worse because I'm in the wrong mindset to get back on track. When I was...

Free online courses thru your library

How did it not occur to me to see if my library offers courses? IT DOES! Thank you so much for suggesting it. My library doesn't offer Lynda.com courses but does offer many from Gale. Everyone, really, check with your library to see if they offer any such courses.

Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

I will have to go back and read/listen to this book again to really grasp everything but even my first pass of it taught me a lot about human nature, society, and our impact on the world. We may have evolved a level of intelligence higher than other living things on the planet but along with...

    Binaural Beats

I've been listening to binaural beats while meditating for the past several days and I'm amazed at the results. If you are not familiar with binaural beats, I'll try to explain them but please bear in mind that I am far from being a brain doctor or scientist. My understanding of how it works is...

Staying out of the YouTube, Netflix, Hulu rabbit hole

You are absolutely right. I know I SHOULD stick to strict time limits. I like the work 25, break for 5 idea. I will give that a try. Thanks for the advice and best of luck keeping on track,

Staying out of the YouTube, Netflix, Hulu rabbit hole

I'm sure I am not alone in this. I sit down at the computer with good intentions of getting some work done. I'll work for a little bit then decide to take a break, so I head on over to YouTube or Netflix or Hulu. I tell myself that I'll only watch for a few minutes. The next thing I know, the...

    Being Conscious of the Present

I recommend reading The Power of Now. I'm glad you've added it to your list. I agree that taking time away from our phones and other devices is critical. My wife and I refer to it as "rectangle staring" and we call each other out when we are rectangle staring instead of enjoying the moment.

    Being Conscious of the Present

I really like that idea of telling a story in my head of what is going on at the moment. I am definitely going to try that. Thanks!

    Remembering Names Specifically

That is a great idea! Thank you. I'm going to use that.

    Remembering Names Specifically

I've tried using associations like the video suggests but it doesn't always work. I like the suggestion of making the association odd or funny (the zombie bride for instance). Perhaps my associations were (yawn) too bland. I will definitely try spicing up the image associations. Thanks for the tip!

    Being Conscious of the Present

Hi Everyone! I am a fan of Eckhart Tolle. I read The Power of Now a few years ago and I've watched a few videos on YouTube that dealt with his teachings. Obviously, his main message is to be present. Don't think about what is coming or what has happened. One of the things I do when I feel I need...
