Quitting full-time job and freelancing for full-time income

Thanks, everyone! I greatly appreciate all the encouragement and advice.

    Improving Decision Making

Very much depends on the decision (obviously), but I used to be a big pros/cons person and deliberate on things, although I've forced myself to become more decisive in everyday situations. It sounds simple and I'm sure you're talking about much bigger decisions than like ... where you want to...

Quitting full-time job and freelancing for full-time income

Agreed. Saving the daycare expense and commuting (my current commute is about 25 miles each way...50 miles/day saved in gas and mileage on the car really adds up...) will be huge when I eventually get there. That will certainly help me bridge the gap between my current salary and what I'll be...

Thanks! I have heard a couple of those tips...currently working on the first one!

Quitting full-time job and freelancing for full-time income

Thanks, everyone. Working building up somewhat of a portfolio before completely taking the plunge. But I'm getting there! Agreed on the kids thing...I would at least be able to drop-off and pickup my kids if I was freelancing and working from home versus relying on daycare.

    Atmoshphere for success

For myself, I much prefer natural light or dim, evening lighting to bright artificial lights, "office lighting", etc. I usually prefer music, especially if there are other distractions around. I also do well with white noise in the background from a TV, although it can't be anything too...

    Small Successes

Small successes are huge. For me, it's taking it one day at a time. I know that's painfully cliche, but if I start looking ahead at a busy week or something I am dreading later in the month, it makes the current moment in time that much more difficult. So, I concentrate on the current day and...

Quitting full-time job and freelancing for full-time income

My current job is far more than a 40/hour/wk commitment, and I'm tired of being tired, plus spending less time at home with my family. And because of my hours, I'm often thinking about work at home, and I've finally decided it isn't healthy and I want to make a change. I've been writing on the...

    Writing for 8 hours straight

Agreed that it's tough to strike the balance. On the one hand, it's beneficial to get in the groove and pound out a bunch of writing. But some days, all that does is drain my energy. If I'm solely writing on the computer, I've found that taking 10 minutes away from the screen every 90 minutes...

    Debating changes, seeking guidance

Yes, that is something I've done a couple of times. I'm a very practical person, and so pros/cons is always one of my go-tos. Thanks!

    Debating changes, seeking guidance

Thank you for the advice! That's a great point...and that's exactly what I found. I initially chased what I thought to be my passion. As it turns out, I tried to make myself fit into the box I needed to be in for my day-to-day, but it wasn't what I am actually good at. Takes awhile to shift...

    Ideal day

Yes, you're right. I need to commit to making it happen on an off-day! Maybe all it takes is for me to type it all out and it will encourage me to actually do it!

    Debating changes, seeking guidance

I am debating making changes in my life, mostly centered around my career. Looking for guidance and trying to find out what works for everyone else when they're trying to make big-picture decisions. Hoping to learn everyday tips from others in the community and excited to do so based on what...

    Ideal day

This is a fascinating premise to consider. All most of us know about the "perfect" day is through the lens of our current situation -- for many, our jobs/careers, other obligations, etc. I think the best way for me to imagine this would be if I had my exact life but suddenly came into enough...
