Breaking free from Smartphone Addiction

Hey guys,
Hmmnn..This has been bothering me for a while now. I virtually do most of my work online so, I find myself intermittently surfing the net, checking my social media apps, Checking for notifications, reaching out for my smartphone texting always. I would've checked at least a few Apps, checked new feeds, watched a few videos before realizing I've spent alot of hours on my Smartphone. I take my Smartphone everywhere.

I don't know if this is Smartphone Addiction but it has caused me to neglect some other aspects of my life, from real-world relationships to even my hobbies.

I've tried installing specific apps on my phone that helps and enables me to track the time I spend on my phone. I've tried limiting my checks and removing some social media apps.

Does anyone have any other suggestion for me. Trust me, it would help. Or if you experienced something similar, Can you share how you overcame it.

I can only relate. I work online too and I think it is great that I can work anywhere just by having my phone with me. But the negative side of it is that I am constantly using my phone...
I try to limit myself too. Sometimes I tell myself to only use camera on my phone and not check any social media and other less important stuff! But it's not that easy... I see some notifications and I think that I will just check quickly, it will take a sec... When in real life it takes so much time of our life.
Well, I have a little child and when I am with her I try not to check my phone because time with her is precious. I don't know if it is a good tip but that is what helped me.
Also sometimes, when I can, I go out to do the groceries or just for a walk without my smartphone. It feels weird, like I'm missing something, but it is also liberating in some way, to feel that no one can reach me in that moment. :D And of course when I go out without a phone that's when I need it (to take a beautiful pic, or to check something important)... :ROFLMAO:

This self-awareness is the first step to battling that addiction, so good on you! I think it's fine to use your phone a lot, especially since you do your work on it. The bottom line is that it shouldn't be negatively affecting the other parts of your life (not just relationships with others, but also your own bodily needs like sleep and regular meals), and you should be able to function without it (not panic or get stressed out).

One thing you can try is putting your phone on flight mode when you're spending time with others or participating in hobbies, so you don't receive notifications that will give you the urge to check it. Also, like OlgaC said, when you're just heading out for a short walk or an errand run, you can try leaving your phone at home. Habits are always tough to break, but your determination will definitely help. Good luck :)
